His Excellency Suhail Al Mazrouei Inaugurates GCC POWER 2023 Conference and Exhibition in Abu Dhabi

His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, today kicked off the 19th GCC – CIGRE International Conference and 29th Exhibition for Electrical Equipment (GCC POWER 2023 Conference and Exhibition), organized by GCC CIGRE in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.

The 3-day event is the largest of its kind and is taking place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). It has drawn the participation of over 800 local, regional, and international electricity stakeholders, in addition to many local and global companies that are participating in the accompanying exhibition. The event provides an ideal platform for exchanging experiences and exploring the latest developments and future trends of the electricity sector in the Gulf region.

In his opening speech, His Excellency Al Mazrouei said: “The electricity sector is at the heart of our sustainable development and economic prosperity. This conference paves the way for effective partnerships and offers a real opportunity to spur discussions of the challenges facing the sector in the light of dynamic global changes affecting the electricity landscape. Such challenges include an increase of demand to keep pace with economic and population growth and industrial aspirations. Collective collaboration is essential to meet this demand while adhering to our environmental commitments. Here is where electrical integration in the GCC region plays an important role in developing a sustainable, reliable energy system and enhancing stability and cooperation between Gulf countries.”

He added: “In the UAE, we recognize the energy security and climate challenges and have devised multiple strategies that make the sector resilient and sustainable. We recently updated the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 to reflect higher ambitions and commitment to addressing the climate and energy crises. We also launched the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050 that aims to turn the UAE into a leading low-emission hydrogen producer and supplier by 2031. The two strategies are major enablers of reaching net zero by 2050 and achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement.”

For his part, His Excellency Eng Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, said: “We are here to help shape the future of the GCC electricity sector as one team. We are highlighting success stories and opportunities to overcome common challenges and devising future plans jointly with the private sector that has an integral role through making considerable investments in the electricity sector.

“As part of Abu Dhabi government, we contribute to the development of policies and regulations for the water and electricity sectors. The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy is a leader in the transition to sustainable energy, in line with the UAE’s federal and local strategies. In a few days, the UAE will host the most important global event on climate change. The 28 th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) will take stock of the collective climate action and align efforts towards achieving its strategic objectives for the best interest of current and future generations.”

His Excellency Eng Essa Bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA): “Sustainability is a major pillar of our future outlook. Qatar has a steadfast commitment to meeting the energy needs of its people and industrial sector while upholding environmental sustainability. KAHRAMAA leverages top-notch smart technologies and solutions to ensure uninterrupted, sustainable, and equitable supply of energy and improve energy efficiency and distribution.”

وأضاف معاليه:" نحن في دائرة الطاقة، كجزء من حكومة أبوظبي، نساهم في صناعة وتحديث السياسات والقوانين المنظمة لقطاع المياه والكهرباء، وتقود دائرة الطاقة عملية التحول المستدام في مجال الطاقة تماشياً مع الاستراتيجيات الاتحادية والمحلية لدولة الامارات، مستفيدة من تجارب العالم وذلك لضمان النمو والاستثمار المستدام بجميع ممكناته.

وتابع معاليه حديثه:" بعد أيام قليلة، سوف تشهد الامارات حدثاً عالمياً مهماً لتقييم الجهود العالمية والدولية المواجهة تحديات التغييرات المناخية، وسوف تتوحد الجهود وتتجدد العزائم لتحقيق الأهداف الاستراتيجية لمصلحة أجيال الحاضر والمستقبل".

من جانبه ذكر المهندس احمد الإبراهيم الرئيس التنفيذي لهيئة الربط الكهربائي الخليجي، أن الهيئة تستمر في نهجها الاستراتيجي لضمان استمرارية الطاقة لدول مجلس التعاون من خلال نقل الطاقة والتعامل الفوري مع أي احتياجات طارئة، خاصة أن الطاقة هي شريان الاقتصاد المستدام، ومحرك التنمية الشاملة، لذلك تتوسع برامج الهيئة من أجل مواكبة تطورات الطاقة وابتكار أفضل التقنيات والأنظمة التي تساعد على ضمان الأنشطة في هذا المجال.

وقال:" عاما بعد عام، حققت الهيئة هذا الهدف، وأكثر، وتجلى ذلك في كم وافر لا يُعد من المنافع الاقتصادية والفنية لدول مجلس التعاون، حيث ساهم الرابط الكهربائي الخليجي في دعم شبكات الدول الأعضاء في حالات الطوارئ، مما أدى الى نجاح الربط الكهربائي في الحفاظ على استمرارية تدفق الطاقة الكهربائية لشبكات الدول الأعضاء دون انقطاع، ونجاح الهيئة في تجنب شبكات كهرباء دول مجلس التعاون لأي انقطاع جزئي أو كلي بنسبة 100% من خلال تقديم الدعم اللحظي بنقل الطاقة المطلوبة عبر شبكة الربط الكهربائي التي تمتد لأكثر من ألف كيلومتر من دولة الكويت شمالا إلى سلطنة عُمان جنوبا حيث تمت مساندة ما يفوق على 2,700 حالة دعم منذ التشغيل. وأسهم المشروع منذ بدء تشغيله في تحقيق وفورات تقدر بنحو 3 مليارات دولار، مقارنة بالتكاليف الاستثمارية والتشغيلية للمشروع منذ انشائه والتي بلغت حوالي مليار ونصف المليار دولار.

وأضاف:" كما تقوم الهيئة حالياً بتنفيذ مشاريع لتوسعة الرابط الكهربائي الخليجي، هي توسعة الربط مع دولة الكويت، وتوسعة الربط مع دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة، والربط المباشر مع سلطنة عُمان، والربط الكهربائي مع جمهورية العراق، تلك التوسعة التي ستمكن الدول الخليجية من الحصول على دعم كهربائي أكبر خلال فترات الطوارئ، كما ستتيح للدول الخليجية أن تتاجر في الطاقة في أوقات توافر فرص تجارة الكهرباء، ومشاريع التوسعة ستكون لها فوائد كبيرة من خلال التوفير في القدرة المركبة، وزيادة قدرة الربط في تمرير سعة أكبر في دعم الحالات الطارئة، والأهم من ذلك زيادة أمن واستقراريه الشبكة والتقليل من الانقطاعات، واتاحة الفرصة للتبادل التجاري بين الدول .

واشار الابراهيم أن نسبة الإنجاز بمشروع الربط الكهربائي الخليجي مع جمهورية العراق وصلت الى 30%، مشيرا ان المشروع جاري وفقا للجدول الزمني المحدد لاستكماله بنهاية عام 2024.

ومن جانبه أكد سعادة المهندس عيسى بن هلال الكواري، رئيس المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء "كهرماء"، أن هذا المؤتمر يعتبر فرصة لتعزيز التعاون الإقليمي وتبادل الخبرات في مجال الكهرباء، مشددا على التحديات الجماعية التي تواجه الدول المشاركة في ظل الطلب المتزايد على الكهرباء وتزايد المخاوف البيئية.

وقال سعادته:” إن قطر ملتزمة بتطوير قطاع الكهرباء، وأنها تسعى لتلبية احتياجات المجتمع والصناعة وفي الوقت نفسه التصدي لضرورة الاستدامة البيئية”، وسلط الضوء على إنجازات كهرماء الملموسة في اعتماد تقنيات الشبكات الذكية، مما أسفر عن تعزيز السيطرة على الطاقة وتعزيز الكفاءة وتحسين توزيع الكهرباء.

وأوضح سعادته، أن الهدف العام للمؤسسة يكمن في تعزيز التطور التكنولوجي واصفا بالتفصيل خطط دمج أحدث التقنيات الذكية والحلول المبتكرة، مما يحقق أهدافًا لإنتاج الطاقة المستدامة وتحقيق توزيع عادل. مشدداً على التزام كهرماء ببناء تحالفات مبتكرة ولعب دور رائد في دعم مشاريع البحث والتطوير.

ولفت سعادته إلى أن الاستدامة تمثل أحد الأولويات الرئيسية، وأن قطر تعمل بجد لتعزيز الانتقال إلى مصادر الطاقة المتجددة وتبني ممارسات صديقة للبيئة، مما يضمن مستقبلًا فعّالًا ومستدامًا.
