UAE Participates in 2nd Meeting of Committee for Joint Arab Electricity Market and Phase Two of Knowledge Sharing Program
The UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) participated in the second committee meeting of the Joint Arab Electricity Market and the second phase of the Knowledge Sharing Program, hosted by the GCC Interconnection Authority in its headquarters in Dammam, KSA, and organized by the Arab League and the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity.
His Excellency Eng Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Water, and Future Energy Sector at MoEI, headed the UAE delegation to the meeting that focused on plans to develop the Joint Arab Electricity Market through examining the developments and experiences of the African and European electricity markets.
His Excellency Eng Al Kaabi said: “The joint venture will bring a host of technical, economic, and environmental benefits. It paves the way for establishing an Arab market for electricity trading, which will improve the resilience of electricity networks against disruptions. The market will play a key role in providing highly efficient electricity supply at affordable prices, as well as meeting countries’ increasing needs for electricity due to population and industrial growth, propelling national economies by diversifying income, and enhancing their sustainable development.”
وأكد سعادته، على هامش مشاركته في اجتماع اللجنة التوجيهية للسوق العربية المشتركة للكهرباء، على دور السوق في توفير الكهرباء بكفاءة وفاعلية عالية وبأسعار أكثر تنافسية، والرقي بمستوى التكامل والكفاءة في القطاع بين مختلف الدول العربية، موضحاً دوره في سد احتياجات الدول من الكهرباء في ظل النمو السكاني والتطورات الكبيرة التي تشهدها في مختلف المجالات، ودعم الاقتصادات الوطنية من خلال تنويع مصادر الدخل، وتعزيز مسيرة التنمية المستدامة التي تنشدها الدول العربية بتسخير جميع الموارد والإمكانات.
وحول التطلعات المستقبلية لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة تابع سعادة وكيل الوزارة المساعد لقطاع الكهرباء والمياه وطاقة المستقبل حديثه:" نتطلع لبناء قدراتنا لتكون دولة الإمارات أحد المزودين الرئيسين لطاقات المستقبل بأنواعها كافة؛ وأن إسهامات الإمارات في مجال الطاقة تتجاوز النطاق الجغرافي للدولة بفضل تبني نهج استباقي يستشرف التحديات ويحولها إلى فرص حقيقية مُلهمة، تدعم مكانتها كنموذج عالمي للريادة والتنمية الشاملة في مجال الطاقة بمختلف مكوناتها".
